Highlights

Stock indexes ended nearly flat Monday as markets were set back by news over the weekend that US-Iran talks were not proceeding. The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 0.1 percent, the S&P 500 firmed 0.1 percent and the Nasdaq was up 0.2 percent. Bond yields and oil prices rose while the dollar was mostly lower.

Trading was also limited by caution ahead of a big week for corporate earnings including bellwether Magnificent Seven shares, which continue to outperform on the view that the AI revolution continues. Sentiment was bolstered by progress toward Senate confirmation of Kevin Warsh as Fed chair as he is expected to cut interest rates this year more than departing Fed Chair Jerome Powell would.
