Highlights

Consumer prices fell 0.3 percent in June, and rose 1.8 percent compared to June of last year, according to final results. The month-on-month decline is lower that the 0.2 percent drop in the initial estimate, while the 1.8 percent year-on-year rate matched both the preliminary result and the median of an Econoday survey of economists’ forecasts.
Core inflation fell 0.2 percent month-on-month in June and rose 1.0 percent in June.

Energy prices moderated during June, down 4.2 percent month-on-month, while still 11 percent above their levels from a year ago. Prices for manufactured goods were lower as well, down 0.4 percent month-on-month and falling 1.1 percent year-on-year.

Consumers overall paid 0.3 percent less for food in June than they did in May, while prices were 0.9 percent higher than a year ago.

Services prices trended higher in June, gaining 0.5 percent over May, with the biggest increase coming for communication services with a 0.7 percent increase. From a year ago, prices are up 1.9 percent for services overall and 7.7 percent for communication.

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices fell 0.3 percent month-on-month and rose 2.0 percent year-on-year, thereby confirming the preliminary results.

The consensus sees no revision in the final June CPI at minus 0.2 percent on month and up 1.8 percent on year.
