Highlights

Rising oil prices remain the overwhelming market focus with more Iranian attacks on shipping around the Strait of Hormuz and disruptions at energy facilities around the Persian Gulf. Government bond markets remain shaky, depending on how long high energy prices persist, and markets appear to be pricing in fewer US rate cuts and a rising prospect of actual rate hikes from the ECB and elsewhere.

A decent batch of economic reports due at 8:30 am ET include housing starts, international trade and jobless claims. Jobless claims is the most contemporary, covering the week of March 7, which includes the period of US-Israeli attacks on Iran. Expectations call for claims at 217K, up from 214K in the previous week.
