Highlights

Stocks rebounded Wednesday to recoup some of Tuesday's bigger losses on President Trump's apparent reversals on his array of threats in the dispute he created over Greenland.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 1.2 percent on Wednesday after dropping 1.8 percent Tuesday. The S&P 500 gained 1.2 percent after losing 2.1 percent Tuesday. The Nasdaq gained 1.2 percent after plunging by 2.4 percent on Tuesday. US Treasury yields fell, oil prices firmed, and the dollar was higher against most major currencies.

Trump's statement in the morning that he would not use military force to seize Greenland gave stocks a lift, and the risk-on move continued later after his statement that he and NATO's leader had reached a framework agreement on Greenland, and that he would not impose tariffs on European countries after all.
