Highlights

Chicago Fed NAI comes in pretty flat for June with 3-month moving average at minus 0.05 versus minus 0.10 for May, with May revised down from minus 0.03 previously reported. The one-month figure for June is –0.02 versus –0.19 in May, revised from minus 0.10.

These are not significant negative numbers but they do suggest a very mixed showing by component suggesting an overall flat economy with bearish aspects.

Forty of the 85 individual indicators in the index make positive contributions to the CFNAI in June, while 45 make negative contributions. Forty-seven improve from May to June while 37 indicators deteriorate and one is unchanged. Of the indicators that improved, 17 make negative contributions.

* Production-related indicators contribute –0.05 to the CFNAI in June, down from –0.03 in May.
* Sales, orders, and inventories category's contribute +0.01 in June, up from –0.09 in May.
* Employment-related indicators contribute –0.04 to the CFNAI in June, unchanged from May.
* The personal consumption and housing category's contribution to the CFNAI is +0.05 in June, up from –0.03 in May.
