Highlights

Italy's industrial production rose 0.7 percent month-on-month on a seasonally adjusted basis in July 2026, while the calendar adjusted year-on-year comparison was flat at 0.0 percent versus July 2025.

Manufacturing, the largest component of the index, edged up 0.3 percent month-on-month but was down 0.8 percent year-on-year, suggesting the sector's modest monthly recovery has yet to offset the annual decline.

Mining and quarrying posted the strongest monthly gain among major categories, up 3.6 percent, though it remains down 1.0 percent year-on-year. Within manufacturing, pharmaceutical products stood out with a 5.4 percent monthly increase and a robust 7.4 percent annual gain, the strongest performer on both measures. Textiles, apparel, leather and accessories also rose sharply on the month, up 3.1 percent, though the annual comparison stayed negative at minus 1.4 percent.

On the downside, chemicals and chemical products fell 2.4 percent month-on-month and were down 3.4 percent year-on-year, one of the weaker sub-sectors on both counts. Transport equipment declined 2.0 percent on the month but posted a 1.8 percent annual gain. Rubber and plastic products, along with other non-metallic mineral products, fell 1.6 percent month-on-month and remained down 1.5 percent year-on-year.

Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply fell 1.4 percent month-on-month but posted a strong 7.6 percent annual increase, the largest year-on-year gain across all categories.

Overall, the data shows a modest monthly rebound led by mining, pharmaceuticals and textiles, while chemicals and manufacturing broadly continue to weigh on the annual trend, even as electricity and pharma post standout annual growth.
