Highlights

The seasonally-adjusted trade surplus stood at EUR3.672 billion in June, expanding from 3.433 billion euros in May as exports increased 1.6 percent, outpacing a 1.2 percent gain for imports on a month-on-month comparison.

The unadjusted balance was 4.232 billion euros, where a 13.2 percent increase in imports were higher than a 9.8 percent gain for exports compared to June of last year.

Consumer goods registered the largest surplus in June at 5.689 billion euros, followed by a capital goods surplus of 4.347 billion. The energy balance was in deficit for 5.002 billion. The trade surplus with the United States was 2.679 billion euros.

Import prices fell 1.3 percent month-on-month and rose 4.9 percent year-on-year, with the monthly decline likely stemming from the relative strength of the euro versus the US dollar. That helped keep dollar denominated prices for energy in check.
