Highlights
Consumer price rose 0.1 percent in October from September, matching the preliminary reading, while year-on-year inflation slowed from its preliminary reading of 0.9 percent to 0.8 percent. Core inflation slowed to 1.2 percent year-on-year in October from 1.3 percent the previous month and was unchanged from the previous month.
The main factor behind the decline was consumers spending 5.6 percent less on energy than they did a year ago, while fresh food was 2.2 percent cheaper than a year ago.
Services prices increased 0.2 percent in October from the previous month and were 2.4 percent above their year ago level, with increases in the sector broad-based save for a 1.8 percent less on transportation. The year-on-year decline in transportation came despite a monthly gain of 6.2 percent. Rents increased 0.4 percent month-on-month and 2.3 percent year on year, while healthcare prices were 0.2 percent higher than in September and 2.1 percent above year-ago levels.
Finally, prices for manufactured goods rose 0.2 percent in October while falling 0.5 percent from a year ago, helped by a slowdown in clothing and footwear prices, and those for vehicles.
Inflation continues to remain tame in France which given the size of the economy will also help keep broader European inflation muted.
