A rebound in megacaps helped lift stocks Wednesday. The Dow Jones industrial average firmed 0.2 percent, the S&P 500 gained 0.7 percent, and the Nasdaq was up 1.2 percent. US Treasury yields declined at the short end and rose at the long end. The dollar declined against major currencies while oil prices slipped.

Apple was a big winner after announcing plans for a big investment in US manufacturing and after the White House said the firm would not be hit by much higher tariffs on Indian goods. Apple makes a lot of iPhones in India. Other megacap winners were in the consumer discretionary sector including Amazon and Tesla. Walmart outperformed on expectations for positive earnings.
