Highlights
Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco rose 1.0 percent in September, while those for"other" goods increased 1.1 percent. Offsetting the gains was a 1.7 percent decline in sales at gas stations and a 2.2 percent drop for published items, sporting goods, and toys. Excluding sales at gas stations, overall sales were up 0.7 percent.
Swiss consumers haven't been as reluctant as those in other European countries to spend. One factor behind this is the overall lack of inflation which is allowing the Swiss to keep more of what they earn.
