Creating a Virtual Steel Mill

Rapid economic growth and structural changes in Brazil, Russia, India, and especially China, have upended the ferrous metals industry in recent years. Steel raw materials and related products like ferrous scrap that were once traded domestically or north-to-south are now traded globally.

To counter what has become an unpredictable spot market, the industry has naturally looked for products that offer transparency, mitigation of price risk, and liquidity. To meet this need, our U.S. Midwest hot-rolled coil (HRC) steel contract was launched in 2008.

After considerable industry engagement, it has become clear that a one-size-fits-all approach is inadequate for the ferrous industry. Our vision, therefore, is to create a "virtual steel mill" where raw materials, semi-finished and finished steel financial products can all be used to manage price risk without disadvantaging other parties in the steel supply chain.

New Storage Rates for Copper

Effective Feb. 1, 2012, C. Steinweg Inc. (Baltimore), will implement new rates in connection with the storage of copper at the facility located in Baltimore, Maryland. The new rates, presented here, reflect the maximum amount of fees that can be charged.
