Gold Record: Options Volume Hits Ten-Month High

On Aug. 9, 2011, Gold Futures reached a daily volume record of 437,250 contracts, surpassing the previous record of 424,316 on 7/28/2010.

Gold Options had a record volume of 115,408 contracts traded on Aug. 10, 2011, upending the prior record of 110,144 contracts traded on Aug. 4, 2011.

E-micro Gold Record: Futures Volume Spikes

On Aug. 9, 2011, E-micro Gold Futures reached a daily volume record of 8,574, surpassing the previous record of 5,077 on August 4, 2011. They also reached an open interest record of 1,677 contracts, surpassing the previous record of 1,449 on Aug. 5, 2011.

Platinum Record: Options Volume Jumps to New Heights

Platinum Options volume soared to a record high of 7,199 contracts traded on Aug. 2, 2011, a 43 percent increase over the previous record of 5,049 contracts traded on July 13, 2011.

Palladium Record: Options Open Interest Continues Upward Climb

The months-long upward climb of open interest in Palladium Options has shown no sign of abating. Three new records were set coming into August, culminating in a high of 9,266 contracts as of Aug. 5, 2011, a 42 percent increase above the record of 6,535 contracts set six months prior on Feb. 7, 2011.

Copper Record: Futures Volume Surpasses Six-Month High

Copper Futures volume reached a six-month high on Aug. 5, 2011, with a record 98,079 contracts traded, replacing the prior record of 91,232 contracts traded on Feb. 22, 2011.

Steel Record: Futures Open Interest Reaches String of New Highs

U.S. Midwest Domestic Hot-Rolled Coil Steel Futures saw a surge in open interest, with three successive records set, culminating in an all-time high of 13,012 contracts as of Aug. 2, 2011. This replaces the prior record high of 12,420 contracts attained on Oct. 5, 2010.
