E-mini S&P Select Sector Index Futures

E-mini S&P Select Sector Index futures provide market participants with a full suite of U.S. equity market sector trading opportunities, through nine futures contracts based on the distinct equity sectors widely recognized by the marketplace. The contracts are based on the S&P Select Sector indices, leading indicators of U.S. equity market sector performance.

The futures offer market participants:

  • Tools to hedge portfolio risk associated with a specific sector or execute sector-specific strategies
  • Means to capitalize on correlations between sectors, a sector vs. the broader U.S. market or a sector vs. a related asset class (i.e., energy)
  • Potential cross margining benefits
  • Price transparency
  • Safety and security of CME Clearing, which substantially mitigates counterparty risk
  • Block and EFP eligibility

Things to know:

  • Unit of trading is $100 x the respective S&P Select Sector Index price (except for E-mini Financial Select Sector futures, which are $250 x underlying S&P Financial Select Sector Index price)
  • Futures trade on the CME Globex platform exclusively from 5:00 p.m. Sundays to 3:15 p.m. Fridays Chicago time (CT). Trading day closes at 3:15 p.m. and re-opens for next trade date at 3:30 p.m. weekdays, with a daily CME Globex maintenance shutdown from 4:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.)
  • Listing cycle is two months in the March quarterly cycle (March, June, September, December)
  • Are cash-settled based on the Special Opening Quotation of the underlying index
  • Collectively, the S&P Select Sector indices represent the constituents of the S&P 500 Index
