About Speculation
As volatility in commodities such as wheat, crude oil and corn continues to increase, the role of "speculators" in the commodity markets comes into question. The fact is speculators play a significant role in the marketplace taking on risks others are trying to hedge. CME Group is taking a leading role to educate Congress and others about the fundamental factors impacting the markets and the important role speculators and other participants play in our free markets. We are also addressing the issue of Position Limits which is a related area of discussion with our regulators.
