CME Clearing services for New York Harbor Ethanol Basis Swaps provide a way to:

  • Enable the biofuels and other industries to take advantage of the benefits of centralized clearing, including daily mark-to-market margining and reduced counterparty risk
  • Mitigate basis risk that cannot be hedged with trading Ethanol futures or calendar swaps

Things to Know:

  • Ethanol Basis Swaps transactions take place in private negotiations between the counterparties with completed transactions submitted to a CME Group clearing firm for processing
  • Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) provide the cash market prices used to calculate the daily settlement prices per a licensing agreement with CME Group
  • CME Group offers Basis Swaps for the following locations: Gulf Coast, New York Harbor and Los Angeles
  • Final settlement is calculated as the cumulative average of the basis value during the final month of clearing
