Since their migration to the CME Globex electronic trading platform in January, Corn futures have shown a deeper liquidity pool with larger market sizes throughout the day, tighter bid/ask spreads and lower implicit trading costs.

Using time-weighted average market liquidity statistics for the March 2008 Corn futures contract for the periods of 1/14/08 to 1/23/08, CME Group observed an 8 percent increase in top-of-the-book bid/ask size contracts during regular trading hours and up to a 54 percent increase in non-regular trading hours. In addition, implicit trading cost, represented by bid/ask spreads, decreased 49 percent during RTH and 32 percent in non-regular hours representing substantial cost savings to traders.
