Following the 1992 introduction of Globex, CME continues to add new products, extend electronic trading hours and improve execution response time. In 1997, CBOT launches its Dow Jones futures contract on the trading floors and CME launches the E-mini S&P 500 contract exclusively on the CME Globex platform. These products are major steps forward for financial futures. The E-mini is a milestone for electronic trading, becoming the fastest-growing futures contract in history. The way is opened for a new century of success in the electronic trading of financial futures instruments.
In 1998, CME introduces the next generation of Globex and sets the course for significant versatility in the platform, offering customers open access and a choice of technologies. This spurs CME’s ongoing technological innovation that continually improves the speed, functionality and capacity of CME Globex.
