Recap Hog Market Report

April hogs closed moderately lower on the day for the third session in a row and closed near the lows of the day for the third session in a row. The market traded as much as 67 higher on the day into the mid-session. Weakness in outside market forces plus higher than expected pork production last week helped to pressure the market early. In addition, there was follow-through technical selling after bearish trade on Thursday and Friday. Cash markets were steady to $.50 lower. Negative profit margins from packers remains an obstacle for the market to build much of a premium above the cash market.
