Technology or “hi-tech” equities constitute perhaps the single most intriguing industrial sector of our economy. As the pace of innovation in the context of electronic; telecommunication; computer hardware and software applications continues apace, our everyday lives are impacted in very obvious ways. Certainly, the emergence of internet technologies serves as prime example of how hi-tech applications affect us on a daily basis.
As such, the corporations that constitute the hi-tech industrial sector are amongst the most dynamic and closely followed in the stock markets. CME Group offers index futures products that track the performance of technology stocks, notably in the form of E-mini NASDAQ-100 futures and E-mini Technology Select Sector futures.
This study takes a close look at the indexes underlying these futures contracts, their historic performance and how the two contracts compare one to the other. We also include a look at the Standard & Poor’s 500 (S&P 500) as the benchmark for the domestic equity market in its entirety.
