Overview

CME Group has implemented a registration process in order to provide firms with market maker contact information for the purpose of engaging in

  1. Options RFQs - Allowable pre-execution communications for options trades executed on CME Globex
  2. Block trades for options and futures

Pre-execution communications for trades intended for execution on CME Globex are subject to the requirements of CME and CBOT Rule 539 and NYMEX Rule 11G.539. Block trades are subject to the requirements of CME and CBOT Rule 526, NYMEX Rule 6.21C and COMEX Rule 104.36C. Where allowed, customers may contact market makers for the purpose of engaging in block trades or in pre-execution communications with respect to the execution of options trades on CME Globex .

Please note:

  • Pre-execution communications for CBOT agricultural options on CME Globex are prohibited.
  • Pre-execution communications for pit transactions executed on the trading floor are expressly prohibited at all CME Group exchanges in all products.
  • CME Globex options trades which result from allowable pre-execution communications must comply with the Request for Quote and Request for Cross requirements set forth in CME and CBOT Rule 539 and NYMEX Rule 11G.539 (see links in the Rulebooks/Related Rules section).

A Note on Block Trades

Block trades may take place only between Eligible Contract Participants (ECP) and are permitted only in certain products subject to specified minimum transaction quantities. For additional information regarding block trades please refer to the links below, which list all block-eligible products by exchange, along with reporting times and thresholds.
