Description

The AD, Business Development – IR & FX will be responsible for leading the business development initiatives to drive Interest Rate and Foreign Exchange product growth. This position will report to the Director, Business Development within Corporate Development, and will work closely with product heads in CME’s Products and Services (P&S) Division. 
 
Develop Product BD Strategy:
  • Work closely with P&S teams to determine IR & FX product strategy and its alignment with current exchange and over-the-counter (OTC) landscape/opportunities for growth.
  • Determine business opportunities/targets to further develop our product offering by partnering with other exchanges, market participants, technology companies, and others.
  • Build/examine, with the assistance of P&S and Research, a potential framework to approach opportunities/targets
  • Align product strategy with overall CME strategy of leveraging our technology, distribution, business processes, and other assets to unlock value in OTC derivative and spot markets.
  • Work across the organization to educate and gain buy-in for product strategy and potential targets.
 
Identify Product BD opportunities:
  • Drive progress by proactively pursuing and building relationships (i.e. Exchanges, key market participants) with others on Business Development and P&S teams which will enable CME Group to build upon product strategy via licensing agreements, strategic investments, partnerships, transaction processing and/or clearing transactions.
 
Opportunity Assessment:
  • Evaluate and prioritize opportunities in the IR & FX exchange-listed and OTC derivatives marketplace. Lead team to conduct competitive assessment, and create high level revenue models in order to explore potential opportunities. Recommend, gain buy-in and drive portfolio of strategic initiatives based on CME Group capabilities.
 
Manage Product BD life cycle:
  • Once targets have been identified, work as point person on BD deal team to drive progress in transactions by initiating conversations, establishing relationships, developing dialogue and advancing discussions to mutual benefit.
  • Work closely with internal and external deal team to develop and deliver term sheet and structure negotiations; point person for negotiating with counterparty.
  • Take accountability for deal status.
  • Work to gain background and understanding of strategic issues, information and term sheet/legal agreement; build consensus amongst the deal team on strategic cross-functional issues.
 
Reporting/Accountability:
  • Proactively update BD and P&S teams on growth/progress for product area.
  • Accountable for deal progress and reporting to senior management on status updates, key strategic issues, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years business experience preferably in financial services / trading / exchange or broker-dealer environment.
  • Substantial experience evaluating, structuring, and negotiating strategic transactions, licensing deals, partnerships and investments (including exposure to M&A work) required.
  • Specific Interest Rate & Foreign Exchange derivativesproduct knowledge.
  • Knowledge of over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives trading, technology and products preferred.
  • MBA or similar advanced degree strongly preferred but substantial relevant experience could substitute.
  • Proven ability to manage cross functional teams while fostering positive relationships.
