Why does CME Group have an internship program?
At CME Group we understand how valuable an internship experience can be toward building a career. Internships help individuals develop work related skills, explore/validate potential career opportunities and provide networking opportunities. CME Group also relies on interns as a source of talent for future recruitment.


What types of internships are available ?
CME Group offers internships in the following areas: Technology, Corporate Development and Finance, Clearing, Marketing, Products & Services, Operations and Human Resources.
 


What kind of work would I do?
CME Group internships offer practical, assignment based work. Interns are treated as valued team members and given professional responsibilities.
 


Who is eligible for the program?
To be eligible for the program candidates must be currently enrolled in school (not a recent graduate) and pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher. Selected candidates must successfully pass a routine drug screening and background investigation prior to their hire.
 


What qualifications are you looking for?
Specific qualifications will vary depending on the position. However, candidates should be results-driven and have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to learn quickly and a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
 


Is a background in financial services a requirement?
A background in financial services is not always required. Regardless of your area of study we encourage you to apply provided you share an interest in financial markets and express a desire to learn.
 


How long is the internship program?
On average, summer interns work for 12 weeks over the course of their summer break. Year-round internships may last anywhere from three to twelve months.
 


How many hours are required?
The amount of hours required to work varies by position. We have interns who work as little as 15 hours a week and as much as 40 hours a week. Typically, summer interns work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.


Are internships paid?
Yes, however compensation varies depending on the candidate’s level in school, amount of relevant experience and the position responsibilities.
 


What are the benefits of interning at CME Group?
Besides gaining valuable experience, exposure to cutting edge technology and competitive compensation, interns are invited to tour our trading floors and electronic trading global command center, attend a Business of CME Group networking/learning session, participate in various online learning sessions through our Knowledge Network and attend other company events.
 


Does CME Group offer Co-Ops?
CME Group uses the terms co-op and internship interchangeably and the level of work is the same. We would be glad to help you receive course credit for your work at CME Group if that is a possibility through your school.
 


Where are internships located?
The majority of internships are located in one of our three Chicago offices all of which are located in the downtown area. Internships in our New York office may be periodically available.
 


What type of degree programs do you typically hire from?
The most common degrees that we recruit from include: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Technical Writing, Telecommunications, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Financial Engineering, Marketing and Broadcasting.
 


When does recruiting begin?
For summer positions opportunities will be posted on the CME Group Web site in late winter/early spring. (These positions are clearly marked as summer.) Mid-March through early May is an especially active time for managers looking to hire interns for the summer. CME Group also offers the ability to participate in our internship program year-round. Year-round internship opportunities are also posted on the Web site.
 


Will you be visiting my campus?
We recruit on-campus each fall and spring. Please check with your school’s Career Center to see if we will be visiting your campus. If we are not scheduled to visit your school, you can still apply online and submit inquiries to mailto:Internships@cmegroup.com.
 


Does CME Group hire students on F1 Visas?
Yes. We hire both U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.
