Qualifications vary depending on the position. However, candidates must be currently enrolled in school (not a recent graduate) and pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher.

A background in financial services is not always required. Regardless of your area of study, we encourage you to apply, provided you share an interest in financial markets and express a desire to learn.

The most common degrees that interns are pursuing include: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Technical Writing, Telecommunications, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Financial Engineering, Marketing and Broadcasting.

Note: Selected candidates must successfully pass a routine drug screening and background investigation prior to their hire.

Besides gaining valuable experience, exposure to dynamic financial markets and competitive compensation, interns are invited to tour our trading floors and electronic trading global command center, attend a Business of CME Group networking/learning session, participate in various online learning sessions through our career development programs and attend other company events.

Course Credit: We would be glad to help you receive course credit for your work at CME Group if that is a possibility through your school. CME Group uses the terms co-op and internship interchangeably; the level of work is the same.

CME Group internships offer practical, assignment based work. Interns are treated as valued team members and given professional responsibilities.

On average, summer interns work for 12 weeks over the course of their summer break. Year-round internships may last anywhere from three to 12 months.

Internships are paid; however, compensation varies depending on the candidate’s level in school, amount of relevant experience and the position responsibilities.

The amount of hours required to work varies by position. We have interns who work as little as 15 hours a week and as much as 40 hours a week. Typically, summer interns work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
