At CME Group, we understand how valuable an internship experience can be to building a career. Internships help individuals develop work-related skills, explore and validate potential career opportunities, and learn from the industry’s best and brightest. CME Group relies on interns as a source of talent for future recruitment.
Internship qualifications vary depending on the position.
All candidates must be currently enrolled in school (not a recent graduate) and pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher.
A background in financial services is not always required. All students are encouraged to apply, provided they are results-driven, have strong communication skills, learn quickly and demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
The most common degrees pursued by interns include: computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, technical writing, telecommunications, business administration, economics, finance, accounting, financial engineering, marketing and broadcasting.
Note: Selected candidates must pass a routine drug screening and background investigation prior to their hire
Internships at CME Group offer more than stimulating work and competitive compensation. They also provide professional development and networking opportunities, including business learning sessions, volunteer events, programming competitions, simulated trading challenges and more
We would be glad to help you receive course credit for your work at CME Group if that is a possibility at your school.
“CME Group’s internship program isn’t running to the copier and then for coffee. It’s an immersive experience that encourages asking difficult questions, solving complex problems and providing real-world solutions. During my time as an intern, I was exposed to many aspects of the industry, and these perspectives absolutely guided my career aspirations.”
— Jonathan Morley, Senior Software Engineer, Former Clearing House Systems Development Intern
As valued team members, our interns earn practical, assignment-based work experience through professional responsibilities.
The number of required work hours varies by position. Interns can work as few as 15 hours a week and as many as 40 hours a week. Typically, summer interns work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
On average, summer interns work for 12 weeks over their summer break. Year-round internships may last anywhere from three to 12 months.
Internships are paid and compensation varies depending on the candidate’s level in school, relevant experience, and position responsibilities.
CME Group posts summer positions online in late winter/early spring. The website also features year-round internship opportunities.
We recruit at college campuses each fall and spring. Check with your school’s Career Center to see if we will visit your campus.
CME Group hires both U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens. Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. We accept applications for internships on a rolling basis.
